Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution

Step into the spirit of 1776 with an immersive, living-history experience presented by the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution. This dynamic celebration brings the Revolutionary era to life through a vibrant blend of pageantry, education, and hands-on discovery for all ages.

The day begins with a grand procession honoring America’s founding, featuring members of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution marching in authentic colonial uniforms, proudly carrying historically significant Revolutionary War flags. The procession culminates with a dramatic live musket volley presented by the SAR Musket Team—an unforgettable tribute to the courage and sacrifice of America’s earliest patriots.  Along with portrayals of George Washington and Martha Washington riding in a traditional horse-drawn carriage and accompanied by the stirring sounds of the Guilford Courthouse Fife and Drum Corps.

Beyond the procession, guests are invited to explore a thoughtfully curated educational village in shaded areas designed for comfort and engagement. Visitors can enjoy one-on-one conversations and photo opportunities with George and Martha Washington, while the Fife and Drum Corps offers live demonstrations and interactive presentations that showcase the music and traditions of the era.

Families and children will find endless opportunities for hands-on learning through “make and take” activities, including crafting spoon dolls, cup-and-ball toys, tricorn hats, and more—each paired with guided instruction to bring colonial creativity to life. Budding historians can also explore genealogy resources, with tutorials and take-home materials to help build their own family trees and discover personal connections to the past.

Throughout the educational area, guests will encounter engaging exhibits on Revolutionary-era life, including displays of historic flags, colonial currency, and weaponry, as well as presentations on pivotal documents and moments such as the Charter of Freedom, the Harlowe Patriots, and the New Bern Resolves. Interactive QR codes provide deeper insights, while a variety of themed handouts and keepsakes—from Betsy Ross flags to America 250 commemorative items—offer meaningful souvenirs.

Additional highlights include life-size colonial family cutouts for fun photo opportunities, live demonstrations of traditional tape loom weaving (complete with detailed exhibits on textile production from raw fiber to finished cloth), and a special children’s story time area that brings history to life through storytelling.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a family seeking a unique educational outing, or simply curious about America’s founding, this experience offers a rich and memorable journey into the 18th century—where the past isn’t just remembered, it’s brought vividly to life.
